What does parentheses tell you to do?

    Parenthesis tells you to multiply. For example, when you see this:

    9+23 (2+1) - 2

    23 (2+1) means to multiply 23 times the number in the parenthesis. 2+1=3. you are supposed to multiply 23*3

    They tell you to multiply numbers like 4x5 is the same as 4 (5)
