    4 (3x-11) 23=5x-14

    Opening brackets;

    (12x-44) 23=5x-14

    276x-1012=5x-14

    Putting like terms together;

    276x-5x=-14+1012

    271x=998

    x=998/271

    x=3.68

    4 (3x-11) + 23 = 5x - 14

    12x - 44 + 23 = 5x - 14

    12x - 21 = 5x - 14

    12x - 5x = - 14 + 21

    7x = 7

    x = 7/7 = 1
