A tax company charges $2.25 for the 1st mile and then 0.20 cents per mile for each mile after the first or F equals $2.25 + 0.20 cents. If Wesley's tax fair was $6.05 how many miles did he travel

    He traveled 20 miles.

    F=2.25 +.20 (x-1) I used x-1 because you have to subtract for the one mile that is $2.25.

    6.05=2.25 +.20x -.20

    6.05=2.05 +.20x

    4=.20x

    20=x
