The first term has x squared and y, which is a total of 3; the next term has 1 x and 1 y for a total of 2, the next term doesn't have a variable, the one after that has x to the 4th and a y for a total of 5, and the next one has just one y for a total of 1. So putting this is descending order, you'd get: - 5x^4y + 3x^2y + 4xy - 6y + 1. A polynomial with any number of terms greater than 3 is just called a polynomial. And this is a 5th degree polynomial.
