Tony's recipe for soup calls for a 1 and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. He wants to use one half that amount. how much salt will he use?

    Half of 1/4 is 1/8

    and half of 1 is 1/2 or 4/8 (which reduces to 1/2)

    add 1/8 and 4/8 together to get

    5/8 of a teaspoon of salt
