    When the same two digits are next to each other in a multi digit number, the relationship is basically nonexistent. just because they are the same doesn't mean they have the same value.

    Ex. 233

    the threes are the same but they do not have the same value. the first three represents three tens (30) because it's in the tens place. the second three just represents 3 because it's in the ones place.
