2 quarters, 1 dime, 2 nickles, and 3 pennies ... what fraction of the coins were either nickles or pennies?

    Hi there!

    If we add the total amount of coins we have together, we get 8 coins in total. Since 5 of those were pennies or nickels we know that 5/8 of the coins were either nickels or pennies.

    Add all of them together and add the 2 nickels plus 3. When we add all of together we get 8 and 3 plus 2 equals 5 so the fraction is 5/8
