Jane is making a large cake for her best friend. The cake is a rectangular prism. It is 15 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 5 inches high. How much of the cake is covered by frosting except the bottom are frosted? Is this surface area or volume? Explain.

    350 inches squared is the answer, because this problem is asking for the surface area. If it was asking for the volume it would have to be asking how much space the cake was taking up, but instead it is asking how much frosting is covering the cake, minus the bottom, aka. the surface are.
