    Set them equal together. 4x-8=2x+2. Subtract 2x on both sides. 2x-8=2. Add 8 on both sides. 2x=10. Divide 2 on both sides x=5. Check answer!

    4 (5) - 8=12

    2 (5) + 2=12

    12=12

    So answer is x=5!
