    Let 2 nos. be x & y

    x + y = 10

    x * y = 16

    from 1st eqn, y = 10 - x

    substituting in 2nd eqn

    x * (10 - x) = 16

    10x - x^2 = 16

    x^2 - 10x + 16 = 0

    (x - 8) (x - 2) = 0

    x = 8 or x = 2

    y = 10 - 8 = 2 or 10 - 2 = 8

    so the two numbers are 2 and 8

    8 and 2 because 2+8=10 and 2 times 8 = 16
