A square is drawn in a rectangular coordinate system such that its vertices are (-2, 2), (-2, - 4), (4, - 4), and (4, 2).

If a dart is thrown into the square without looking, what is the probability that it will land in the fourth quadrant? 1/9, 2/9, 4/9

    4/9 because the majority of the square is in the 4th quadrent

    So the base is from - 2 to 4 and it's height is from - 4 to 2

    Overall the area is 6^2=36 u^2

    The part in the fourth quadrant only has a base of 0 to 4 and a height from - 4 to 0, so that area is only 4^2=16 u^2

    So the probability of hitting the fourth quadrant is 16/36=4/9
