A student's pay of $23 an hour at a new job is $6 more than twice the amount the student earned per hour at an internship. Write and solve an equation to find the hourly pay of the internship.

    If the old rate of pay is x and the new rate is y, y = 2x + 6. Y = 23, so: 23 = 2x + 6. 2x = 17. x = 8.5. The hourly pay of the internship is $8.50.
