    | 4x - 3| - 5 = 4

    | 4x - 3| = 9

    4x - 3 = 9 - (4x - 3) = 9

    4x = 12 - 4x + 3 = 9

    x = 3 - 4x = 6

    x = - 6/4 or - 1.5

    solution to equation 1 : x = 3 and x = - 1.5

    |2x + 3| + 8 = 3

    | 2x + 3| = - 5 ... no solution because an absolute value cannot equal a negative number
