Maeve and her 3 friends are splitting candy they got for halloween. they have 5/6 of a pound of candy that they want to split equally among them all. How much candy does each girl go?

    So, you divide 5/6 lb by 3 since there are 3 girls. To divide a fraction by a number simply multiply it by the reciprocal of the number:

    (5/6 lb) / 3 = 5/6 lb * 1/3 = 5/9 lb

    Each girl receives 5/9 of the pound of candy.
