    Since both equations are set = y you can set them equal to each other and solve.

    -3x + 5 = 2x - 6

    Subtract 2x from both sides.

    -5x + 5 = - 6

    Subtract 5 from both sides

    -5x = - 11

    Divide both sides by-5

    x = 11/5

    Substitute 11/5 in for x in either equation and solve for y.

    y = - 3 (11/5) + 5

    y = - 33/5 + 5

    y = - 33/5 + 25/5

    y = - 8/5

    (11/5, - 8/5)
