    Well you can start by making an equation

    4 times a number. we'll call "a number" B

    so it would be 4B

    increased by 6 is + 6

    so we have 4B+6

    results in 58 would be = 58

    your equation is 4B+6=58

    subtract 6 from both sides to isolate the variable

    4B+6=58

    -6 - 6

    4B=52 then divide by 4 to get B alone

    :4 : 4

    B=13

    so the number in the problem is 13
