    5.5 x 10 ^ 5

Everytime you write things in standard form (called "scientific notation" to try and confuse people), you do a number between 1 and 10 times 10 to the power of something. In this case, 10 ^ 5 (10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10) = 100,000, because you add a zero on every time when multiplying by ten. Then 100,000 x 5.5 = 550,000
