A right rectangular prism is 4 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 6 inches tall. What are the area and perimeter of a cross section that is parallel to the base of the prism? The area of the cross section is square inches, and its perimeter is inches.

    The area of the cross section that is parallel to the base of the rectangular prism is the product of the length and the width.

    Area = (4 inches) (3 inches) = 12 in²

    Also, the perimeter is equal to twice the sum of these parameters.

    Perimeter = 2 x (4 inches + 3 inches)

    = 14 inches
