    Simply plug in the value of x.

    f (x) = - x² + 4x + 12

    f (3) = - (3²) + 4 (3) + 12 = - 9 + 12 + 12 = - 9 + 24 = 15

    f (4) = - (4²) + 4 (4) + 12 = - 16 + 16 + 12 = 0 + 12 = 12

    f (5) = - (5²) + 4 (5) + 12 = - 25 + 20 + 12 = - 25 + 32 = 7

    f (6) = - (6²) + 4 (6) + 12 = - 36 + 24 + 12 = - 36 + 36 = 0

    g (x) = x + 8

    g (3) = 3 + 8 = 11

    g (4) = 4 + 8 = 12

    g (5) = 5 + 8 = 13

    g (6) = 6 + 8 = 14

    f (x) = g (x) when x = 4.

    f (4) = g (4)

    12 = 12
