A recipe for chicken and rice calls for 3 1/2 pounds of chicken. Lisa wants to adjust the recipe so that it yields 1 1/2 times as much chicken and rice. How much chicken will she need?

    Well if you start with 3 1/2 lbs of chicken you get the other half by just splitting the 3 1/2 into 1 3/4 lbs which is then added with the original amount to get 5 1/4 lbs of chicken for the recipe.
