If you square a number that is less than 1.

For example, say your number was 1/2

    the square of 1/2 is (1/2) ^2 = (1/2) (1/2) = 1/4

    For example 1/2 or 0.5.

    0,5 x 0.5 is 0.25. because 1/2 of a 1/2 is 1/4 or 0.25 because that is the same like 0.5 and 1/2.

It works the same way as 2 squared = 4 but with getting smaller because it is less than 1.
