    Let w be the width of the rectangle. From the given condition above, its length is therefore equal to w + 4. The perimeter (P) of the rectangle is twice the sum of its width and length. With the given,

    36 in = 2 x (w + w + 4)

    The value of w is 7. The length is therefore 11 inches.
