Ed spent 8.5% of his savings on lunch, which cost $5.25. How much did he have in savings before lunch?

    5.25*8.5=44.625 5.25-44.625=39.375 So the answer is 39.375

    You would set a proportion with 8.5 over 5.25 and set it = to 100 over x. then you cross multiply and get 61.7647 ... and round it to 61.76
