    So you first do the parenthasees

    remember that - (x-5) is equal to - 1 (x-5) or - x+5

    we try to get all the unknowns or the x terms on one side and the known terms, like numbers 1,2,3 on the other

    so 6x-8=22-x+5

    add like terms (x+x and numbers + numbers)

    6x-8=27-x

    add x to both sides

    7x-8=27

    add 8 to both sides

    7x=35

    divide both sides by 7

    x=5

    6x-8=22 - (*-5); add 8 to both sides

    6x=30 - (x-5); distribute negative sign

    6x=30-x+5; combine like terms

    6x=35-x; add x on both sides

    7x=35; divide both sides by 7

    x=5 is the answer

    substitute 5 for x and check

    6 (5) - 8=22 - (5-5)

    30-8=22 - (-0)

    22=22

    so the answer would be x=5
