    12:5:7

    the difference between 12 and 7 is 5 and 5x10=50 so ...

we times the whole ratio by 10

    120:50:70

now the difference between cupcakes and rolls is 50.

    so ...

    a) 120

to work out the total of how many items the bakery sold we add all of them together

    120+50+70 = 240

    so ...

    b) 240

    Cupcakes:Bagels:Rolls

    12:5:7

If there were 50 more cupcakes sold than rolls, that means the difference between the ratios is 50. 12 - 7 = 5.

    50/5 = 10 meaning that 1 part of the ratio is 10.

It's simple now just to times the ratio number by 10 for your answers.

    A) 12 x 10 = 120

    B) (12 x 10) + (5 x 10) + (7 x 10) = 240
