To approach a runway a plane must begin a 7° decent starting from a height of 5 mile above the ground. To the nearest mile, how many miles from the runway is the airplane at the start of this approach?

    Tan 7 degrees = 5 miles / distance

    distance = 5 miles / tan 7 degrees

    distance = 5 miles /.12278

    distance = 40.7 miles
