Which quantity is given by the constant term?

The general equation of a line in slope-intercept form is:

y = mx + b

where m is the slope and b is the constant term.

If x is put equal to zero the equation becomes:

y = b

therefore the constant term b is the intercept on the y axis, or the y-intercept.
