The figure (see the link below) shows a shaded region and a non-shaded region. Angles in the figure that appear to be right angles are right angles.

What is the area, in square feet, of the shaded region?

    In the shaded region you just need to form a right triangle and 2 rectangles and to sum their area.

    A = 3*10/2+10+16=41 square feet

    For the non-shaded region, you make the difference between the entire rectangle and the shaded region.

    A = 16*8-41=87 square feet
