First of all multiply c by the coefficient of x^2 so

    x^2 + x - 42

Then find two numbers that multiply to - 42 and add to b (which in this case is one)

-6 and 7 in this case.

    Put it in this format:

    (x - 6) (x + 7)

Now divide by your original coefficient of x^2

    (x-6/3) (x+7/3)

If it doesn't divide properly put the denominator in front of x

    (x - 2) (3x + 7) is your fully factored answer.
