The circumference of the earth is approximately 131,000,000ft write this number in scientific notation and tell how you knew to use a positive or a negative exponent

    U use a negative exponent to write a number smaller than 1, positive exponents are used to write numbers bigger than 1. clearly 131,000,000 is bigger than 1 so we use a postive exponent. there's always a decimal at the end of a whole number. and we move that decimal to the front where the fron value is more thnand one but less than 10. we move the decimal 8 places to the left and u get to 1.31X10^8

    1.31 times 10 to the 8th power.
