    1) 4x=36-12

    4x=24

    x=6

    4 divided by 24 is 6

    2) Like terms are involved in this

    2x+9=5x

    2x-5x=-9 they would change signs because they are moving to the oppisite side

    -3x=-9

    x=3

    3) 3 (2x+1) = 15

    6x+3=15

    6x=15-3

    6x=12

    x=2
