    First you have to get the variables on one side and numbers on the other

    M+3=-m-1

    lets add M to both sides

    now its

    2M+3=-1

    now we have to get the tree onto the right side of the =

    we subtract 3 from both sides

    2M = - 4

    now we undo the multiplication and do division

    2 : 4 = 0.5 or 1/20

    M + 3 = m - 1

    +1 + 1

    m + 4 = m

    -m - m

    4 = 0m

    0 0

    0 = m

    There is no solution.
