Jane counted a total of 40 white cars and yellow cars. There are 9 times as many white cars as yellow cars. How many white cars did Jane count?

    40/10 = 4

    9 times as many white cars as yellow cars, then 4 x 9 = 36

    so white = 36

    yellow = 4
