    First, cancel out your X values to get one x on a side. To do this subtract the x that is least in value. X is smaller than 5x, so you have to subtract it.

    5x-x = 4x,

    Now your new equation is 4x = - 12.

    Divide both sides by 4.

    Answer is X = - 3

    5x-x=-12

    4x=-12

    X = - 12/4

    X=-3
