    x<-5

If I read the question correctly and x stands for a variable, and not multiplication, you can multiply each value by 10 to get whole numbers (or not, but whole numbers are easier to work with, and you get the same answer either way, I checked). This gives you

    -4x - 12>8

First you want to isolate x by adding 12 to both sides and getting. - 4x>20. Then you divide both sides by - 4, but when doing so, remember that when you divide by a negative number, you need to flip the sign. So then your answer is x<-5.
