In the school election. James ran against Andrew for Secretary. James received 75% of the votes. If 240 students voted, how many votes did James receive?

    So, 75% is the same as 3/4 right? The best way to do this would be to first find 1/4.

    240/4 = 60

    Now you know that 1/4 equals 60.

    but ... you have 3/4

    60 x 3 = 180

    180 kids voted for James.
