Ms. Graves gave her class 12 minutes to read. Carrie read 5 1/2 pages in that time. At what rate, in pages per hour, did Carrie read?

    Ok so the best way to solve this is using a proportion. Carrie read 5.5 pages in 12 minutes which looks like this: 5.5/12 Now how many pages in an hour looks like this: x/60. It is represented a x bcause we don't know it's value. 5.5/12 = x/60. Cross multiply and you get 12·x = 12x and 5.5·60 = 330. Divide by 12 and get 27.5
