If you are trying to find 10 % of a value you need to times it by 0.1

Such as if you were to find 25% of 30 you times 30 by 0.25

    - - Before you increase it, you have 100% of it.

    - - When you increase it, you add 10% more, so you wind up with 110/% of it.

    - - 110% is the same number as 1.1.

    - - So in order to increase something by 10%, you multiply it by 1.1.
