A park is shaped like a rectangle with a length 5 miles it's width w. what is a simplified expression for the distance between opposite corners of the park?

    Let the distance between the two corners be AB.

    Now, according to the pythagoras theorum,

    AB² = 5² + w²

    Thus, AB = √25+w²

    Thus, the distance between the two corners is √25+w²
