If the population of a certain american town in 1916 was 1,000 and seems to double every 12 years, what should its excpected population be in 2012? show work and explain why this is the correct answer.

    2012-1916 is 96, which is 8*12. Thus, it will multiply by 2^8, thus becoming 256,000.
