    2x + (3) (6) = 36

    Simplify both sides of the equation.

    2x + 18 = 36

    Subtract 18 from both sides.

    2x + 18 - 18 = 36-18

    2x = 18

    Divide both sides by 2.

    2x / 2 = 18/2

    x = 9

    Move all terms that don't contain x to the right side, and solve.

    x = - 3y/2 + 18
