Is x=3 a solution of the equation 3x-5=4x-9? Explain

    No it is not. The correct answer would be 4=X because you can't have a negative X so the original equation is 3x-5=4x-9. When doing this equation you have to move the 3x to the 4x side and then subtract, giving you - 5=X-9. Then you have to move the - 9 to the - 5 side (the - 9 then becomes a positive) and then you have 4 left over so the answer is 4=X.
