    We'll use n as "the number". 2n+3=1/2n+12. Step one is to isolate the variable.

    2n-1/2n is 1.5n.

    1.5n+3=12.

    Subtract 3 from both sides.

    1.5n=9.

    n=6.

    First we have to make an equation

    2x+3=1/2x+12

    then solve

    15=-1.5x

    -10=x

    the number is - 10
