In january, meghan made 12 fewer sales calls that Paul did. Together, they made 256 calls. How many calls did Meghan make that month?

Firstly try to divide their common result by the amount of people, which is in this case:

256 / 2 = 128

Now substract 6 (because 12 / 2 = 6) from that and you'll get Meghan's sales calls. Add 12 and you'll get Paul's sales calls.

Meghan: 128 - 6 = 122

Paul: 128 + 6 = 134

128 + 134 = 256 (correct)
