    He spent 8.5% of savings on lunch which was 5.25

    therefore 8.5%=5.25

    figure out what 100% is

    5.25:8.5=x:100

    5.25/8.5=x/100

    multiply both sides by 100

    525/8.5=x

    divide

    61.76=x

    he has $61.76 in his savings before lunch
