A segment is 10 cm long and is divided into 5 equal parts. If it is divided into 8 equal parts, how many segments long will it be?

Length of the segment is given = 10 cm

This segment is firstly divided into 5 equal parts.

Then from the above known facts we can easily find the length of each segment in which they are cut. They are cut into equal segments.

So

Length of each segment = (10/5) cm

= 2 cm.

In the second instance we see that the same segment of 10 cm is divided into 8 equal parts

Then,

length of each segment = (10/8) cm

= 1.25 cm

So each segment will have a length of 1.25 cm.
