There are many kinds of roots

    square root

    cube root

    4th root

    5th root

    etc

square=2D so it means 2 identical numbers that multiply to get that number so exg

    √4=2 or - 2 because 2 times 2=4 and - 2 times - 2=4

cube root=3 identical number that multiply to get that number exg

    ∛27=3 or - 3 because 3 times 3 times 3=27 and - 3 times - 3 times 3=27

    then 4th root=4 number

5th root=5 numbers and so on

It is quite hard to define it but I believe a square root is a number that can be multiplied by itself to give the original number.

    2 x 2 = 4 so the square root of 4 is 2

    3 x 3 = 9 so the square root of 9 is 3

So a number which is squared produces another number which can be square rooted to get the original number.
