    First you subtract x from both sides to get 3x+11=2. Then you subtract 11 from both sides to get 3x=-9. Then you divide by 3 to get - 3.

    4x + 11 = x + 2

    4x - x = 2 - 11

    3x = - 9

    x = - 3
