    I'm a little confused with the question but if u want to find the value for y so u can get - 40 is going to be - 35

    -5x+y=-40

    -5 (1) + y (-35) = - 40

    -5-35=-40

    (5, y). Implies that x = 5

    -5x + y = - 40

    -5*5 + y = - 40

    -25 + y = - 40

    y = - 40 + 25

    y = 25 - 40

    y = - 15.

    Value of y = - 15.
