    I will use the Substitution Method:

    Method 1 (Substitution):

    x = first number

    y = second number

    x + y = 50 Equation 1

    x = 2y - 43 Equation 2

    Substituting Equation 2 into Equation 1:

    2y - 43 + y = 50

    2y + y = 93 Add 43 to each side.

    3y = 93 Addition.

    y = 31 Divide each side by 3.

    Substituting value of y into Equation 1:

    x + 31 = 50

    x = 19 Subtract 31 from each side.

    Answer: x = 19 and y = 31
